About the Conference
The conference ‘Restoring Communities through ‘Home-Owner-Driven’ Reconstruction: from post-Emergency to Development’ intends to provide a platform for examining practices and lessons learned in the restoration of communities affected by disaster and conflict internationally.
The conference will address both technical aspects of reconstruction as well as the underlying “People’s Process”. Focus will be placed on the current wave of reconstruction efforts in Sri Lanka by UN-Habitat following the end of the conflict in 2009. Whilst it will build on previous post-tsunami experience in Sri Lanka, and experiences from other countries, the debate will be geared towards practical approaches in addressing the prevailing housing needs in post crisis scenarios.
The conference will bring together key national and international stakeholders in the reconstruction, post-emergency and development sectors including donors, implementing partners, policy makers, development practitioners and academics.
