UN-Habitat Launched Project to Support COVID-19 Recovery

23 November 2022, Nuwara Eliya and 24 November 2022 Badulla, Sri Lanka: UN-Habitat, as part of officially launching the project ‘Strengthening Socioeconomic Resilience of Communities Affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic in the Central and Uva Provinces of Sri Lanka’ held two (2) orientation meetings in Nuwara Eliya and Badulla.  The Government Agent/District Secretary of Nuwara Eliya, Mr. G K G A R P K Nandana, His Worship Mayor, Nuwara Eliya, Mr. Chandana Lal Karunaratne took part in the even in Nuwara Eliya, along with all relevant key government officials.

 

Ms. Damayanthi Paranagama. Agent/District Secretary of Nuwara Eliya, and key government officials participated in the event in Badulla. Ms. Sakunthala Adikari, Senior Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Mr. Doyun Kim, Deputy Direct, Ms. Hyunjeong Kim, Senior Manager and Ms. Himanthi Sumathipala, Assistant Manager from Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) participated the meeting online.

 

The 33-month project is funded by KOICA and is implemented by UN-Habitat with the aim of increasing access to sustainable, safe water and adequate sanitation, promoting personal hygiene, environmental practices and provision of infrastructure; and improving agricultural practices and extension services. A brief introduction to the project was presented by Mr. Laxman Perera, Human Settlements Officer, UN-Habitat Regional Office for Asia and Pacific, Japan and Officer in Charge, UN-Habitat, Sri Lanka. UN-Habitat staff from Colombo and Districts joined the events.
