Objectives

The objectives of the Project range from immediate assistance to communities and local governments to restart functioning as speedily as they can and to assist communities rebuild their infrastructure and housing to begin a normal life as soon as possible enabling them to recover from the trauma of the tsunami. This will require support to remove the debris, salvage material, rebuild and repair their houses, as well as repairing essential infrastructure so that basic services and housing become available as soon as possible. As important as the repair and reconstruction is the social recovery of affected communities. This will be done with support to mobilize and org anise the communities so the affected people set their own reconstruction prioritize as well as shape the content of the assistance packages. In addition their livelihoods will be regenerated through the direct investment of the assistance packages within the communities, creating local employment and opportunities for entrepreneurship. The specific project objectives include:

  1. To enable traumatized communities rebuild their social capital of representatives bodies with the capacity to take decisions regarding their own rebuilding process;
  2. To enable the target communities to rebuild essential physical facilities including shelter so that they can restart functioning as normal communities;
  3. To help create wage employment from the investment of the rebuilding process as a way of contributing to the recovery of the local economy;
  4. To promote people’s engagement in the reconstruction as a way of rebuilding shattered communities and imparting self-reliance

  3. Preparation of City Plans for Rapid Action (CPRA)
  4. Identification and Categorization of Beneficiary Families
  5. Project will be implemented in Following phases
    1. Replacement of essential equipment and repairs for the Municipality to providing services
    2. Rehabilitation of essential services to the most vulnerable communities
    3. Reconstruction of destroyed and damaged housing
    4. Improvement of infrastructure in the reconstructed areas

Progress
