Opening of the Mahilavedduwan Community Centre, Batticaloa district

Battinews.com (English Translation); 25 August, 2015, Batticaloa: Mahilavedduwan is one of the under-developed villages in Manmunai West DS Division in Batticaloa District that benefited from the construction of a Multipurpose Community Centre by UN-Habitat through an Infrastructure Development Project funded by the Government of Japan. The cost of constructing this building was LKR. 3 Million. The newly constructed building was ceremonially opened this evening (25th August 2015) for the use of the Mahilaveddduwan community.

Mr. Seenivasan Kiritharan, Additional Government Agent of Batticaloa, officially opened the building and participated as the Chief Guest at this event.

Divisional Secretary of Manmunai West, Mr.S.Suthaharan, Senior Managers of UN-Habitat, Employees of Manmunai West DS’s Office, Members of the Rural Development Society and community members also participated at this event. In commemoration of opening the Community Centre, trees were planted in the premises and the ownership certificate of the Centre was handed over to the President of the Rural Development Society.
